REPORT: Wolves 0-2 Owls
An imperious first half display from Wednesday ensured a three-point haul and a first win at Molineux in over ten years.
Goals from Fernando Forestieri and Kieran Lee punctuated a superb period of dominance that left Wolves chasing shadows.
It was the Owls’ most impressive half of football from the season so far and served as the platform for a well-deserved win in the Black Country.
After an even start to the game, with both sides looking lively, the Owls struck the first significant blow 15 minutes in.
Tom Lees played an accurate ball out to Barry Bannan and the Scot delivered a stunning first time cross that eventually landed to Forestieri, who had his feet taken by Matt Doherty.
There was no doubt on the award of a penalty and neither on the finish from Forestieri as the Italian sent Andy Lonergan the wrong way from 12 yards.
Wednesday were in the driving seat and the influential Bannan went close from a Lee cutback in the box.
There was no stopping the Owls, though, and they duly doubled their lead on 29 minutes.
Forestieri got the better of Richard Stearman and advanced on goal to feed Lucas Joao, who in turn found Lee and the midfield man smashed past the despairing Lonergan.
Ross Wallace sent a free kick inches wide, then the same player almost forced Kortney Hause into rolling the ball into his own goal before the sound of the half time whistle was in all likelihood a relief for the beleaguered hosts.
Wolves needed to regroup during the interval and this they did, dominating the early exchanges of the second half.
Substitute Nouha Dicko carved a great chance but sliced wide and Hause headed into the grateful arms of Keiren Westwood from a corner.
Wednesday countered with Wallace testing Lonergan before Ivan Cavalerio spurned the Midlanders’ best opening of the game, dragging across Westwood and wide ten minutes from time.
And that miss proved pivotal as Wanderers struggled to break through again and the Owls saw out the game with confidence to take the points back to Sheffield.
