Barry Bannan is excited for the new campaign and believes experienced boss Steve Bruce is the right man to lead the Owls into 2019/20.
Upon taking over as manager at Hillsborough last season, Wednesday embarked on an incredible run in the Championship.
On 1 February, the Owls were 12 points shy of the play-offs but such was Wednesday’s run, a top six spot was still possible right up until the penultimate game of the season away at Preston.
Wednesday lost just three of their last 19 league outings.
With a full pre-season under Bruce, the midfielder is positive ahead of the new campaign which kicks off in just over seven weeks.
“We ran out of games last season to make the top six, but in the time the manager has been here we lost just three games,” Bannan said.
“It’s a hard league so I think that was a brilliant run. I definitely think we have the right man for the job.
“There have been a lot of players leave in the summer and there will be change at the club but with this gaffer, he knows everything about the league and I think we will be even better next year.”
Bannan continued: “It’s a great club, massive support and you look at the last away game of the season when we took over five and a half thousand to Preston with nothing really to play for.
“The fans are just waiting to get into the Premier League where they will take off again.”
