A challenge to relish

19 January 2017

For Owls midfielder Barry Bannan, the challenge of facing automatic promotion favourites Brighton is one to look forward to.

Accepting the fixture will be up there as one of the toughest of the season, the Scot says Wednesday have nothing to fear heading to The Amex.

“It’s a massive game but it’s one we’re looking forward to,” he said during the pre-match press conference.

The gap between Brighton and Wednesday is nine points but Bannan insists the Owls have every reason to travel south with confidence.

Wednesday have already completed the double over play-off rivals Huddersfield and upset the odds to defeat Newcastle away from home on Boxing Day.

Combine that with the recent run of just one loss in ten, Bannan says there is a thriving spirit in the camp.

He added: “Since I’ve come here, we seem to have played Brighton quite a lot.

“They are a very good team, they are up at the top of the league and that’s where we want to be.

“We are going into this game with great confidence with the results we’ve had. It’s a massive game for us.

“Our clean sheets have been a big plus for the team, our defence will have a job on their hands Friday but it’s nothing they’re incapable of.

“They have been brilliant and if you can keep clean sheets you will win games.”
