A strong test

The Owls are set to take on Portuguese giants Benfica this evening and Ross Wallace believes the level of opposition will be a real benefit to Wednesday.

Benfica were crowned champions of Portugal last term for a record 35th time in their history.

The Champions League outfit boast a wealth of talent in their squad, underlined by a 4-0 victory over Owls’ Championship rivals Derby at the weekend.

Wallace told swfc.co.uk: “It will be fantastic and a great game for the Portuguese lads that are here.

“They’ll be looking forward to it, as are the rest of the players.

“You want to play against the best and see where you are at in pre-season.

“They will be looking to step it up as their season gets closer but we want to put in a good performance in front of our fans, especially being back at Hillsborough.”

Following tonight’s clash with Benfica, Wednesday will quickly regroup and head out to Portugal for the five-day Algarve training camp on Thursday.

The Scot added: “We have worked hard, we’ve got a few games under our belt and looking forward to the next stage of pre-season.”
