American dream for SWFC education students

15 August 2016

An aspiring football star from the club’s Education Programme is the latest student to be offered unconditional offers to study and train in the United States of America.

Josh Sugden, aged 18, has been given the opportunity to study on a four year scholarship in a college in either Texas or Miami where he will work on his playing skills as well as completing professional study to achieve a college or University level degree.

Josh, who joins his class mates Harry Holland, Chris Lacomi and Reece Clegg on their American college offers, will start the course in September where he will train daily in first class professional facilities, attend lectures and complete assignments, live on campus in dorm rooms and gain employability around the campus.

The programme, Collegiate Soccer USA, directed by former Sheffield Wednesday centre midfielder James O’Connor, is the country’s leading football scholarship consultants and work with student-athletes all over the world and will now be working closely with Sheffield Wednesday to recruit more talented students in the future.

The scholars all studied on the BTEC Sport Level Three Extended Diploma course for two years at Sheffield Wednesday and will be the first cohort to go on to study in America.
