Big game for both

2 March 2017

Glenn Loovens says the weekend clash with Norwich is the ideal opportunity to get back on track after successive defeats.

The stakes are high as an Owls victory would severely dent the Canaries’ top six hopes, while the reverse would open up the race.

“It’s the next game so it is the most important but it will be a little bit special because they are just below in the table trying to take our spot,” the skipper said.

“It will be a tough game but a good game, a game we are looking forward to playing.

“We have to get back to winning ways and what better way to do it than against your rivals for a play-off spot.”

Tipped by many to be automatic promotion challengers this season, it hasn’t worked out that way for Alex Neil’s side.

An indifferent spell in October, November and December saw the Canaries drift away after a strong start to the season.

But with just one defeat in eight heading to Hillsborough on Saturday, the fixture is one not to be missed as Loovens continued:

“They were one of the favourites before the season but we all know it doesn’t work like that. You have to perform week in, week out or you will get punished.

“But they have a great team with great players and I expect them to make it hard for the rest of us.

“From our perspective, we are with confidence. There have been games where we thought we should have got more out of it, like at Leeds.

“I think they had one meaningful shot on target but it shows that’s sometimes all it takes.

“We have to be focused and make sure we get back on track with our clean sheets.”
