Carlos rues Birmingham setback

17 September 2016

Carlos Carvalhal rued that the Owls were unlucky to lose 2-1 in the televised match against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s.

Wednesday took the lead when Steven Fletcher sent Gary Hooper one on one with Blues goalkeeper Adam Legzdins, with the striker sliding the ball into the back of the net.

But the home side hit back when Clayton Donaldson scored from the penalty spot before Lucas Jutkiewicz headed a winner in the final minute of stoppage time.

Earlier, though, the Owls dominated, as Carvalhal reflected in his post-match thoughts:

“Today we didn’t get the luck we got in the last game.

“I don’t remember Keiren Westwood having any serious saves to make during the game, he wasn’t tested as much as we tested their goalkeeper.

“Just like the Brentford game we created a lot of chances but we didn’t score all of them, this is football.

“We brought on Gary Hooper at 0-0 to try and win the game because we were in control at this moment.

“We scored a good goal and the way we are playing is very good, but today we just didn’t get the luck.

“I must say congratulations to Birmingham, though, they fought back and won the game at the end.

“We will always try to win every game we play and today we lost in those last moments because we tried to win.”
