Collectively fantastic

Reflecting on the Owls’ victory over play-off rivals Huddersfield on Saturday, Carlos Carvalhal says as a collective, Wednesday were deserving of the three points.

With praise for his players and supporters, the head coach was delighted with the outcome of the Terriers clash which saw the Owls move five points clear in the top six.

He said: “I’m a collective person, I don’t put responsibilities when we lose a game on one player, I don’t want to put responsibilities on one player because we win a game.

“All of the players tried their best, they were fantastic especially in the second half and they should be happy, all of them.

“I’m very happy with the fans, they gave good participation in the game, they affected the game also.

“Even in the first half when we didn’t perform so well, we felt all the time they were with us. This is very, very important to achieve the victory.

“We were more like Sheffield Wednesday in the second half than in the first but this is football.”

Wednesday are now in preparation for one of their biggest challenges of the campaign - a trip to automatic promotion favourites Brighton on Friday.

On the clash – that will be staged in front of the Sky Sports cameras – he added:

“I must now focus my players for Brighton on Friday, this is our most important game of the season because it is the next one.

“We want to continue our run and see what we can do. We will focus on going there and winning the points and after, let’s see.

“We are improving, we can do better, we will get better and this is what I know.”
