The Under-18s suffered a second successive defeat, going down 3-1 to Crewe at Middlewood Road.
The Alex were good value for the points too, showing a clinical nature in the final third to put Wednesday to the sword.
In truth, the Owls struggled to get their passing game going throughout allowing Crewe to seize the advantage, and they took the lead with a well-taken Lewis Reilly set piece just before half time.
Wednesday did go close with a couple of half chances but that promise was extinguished early in the second period when Crewe went two goals to the good.
Jordan Lonchar spurned a good chance to halve the arrears from close range before the hosts did register through Fraser Preston.
It was to little avail, though, as the Alex promptly restored their two-goal advantage with a second strike from Reilly ten minutes from time to conclude the scoring.
