Dejphon Chansiri club statement

22 October 2016

Good evening to you all.

From my heart, I wish to say thank you for the impeccable way in which you observed the tribute to King Bhumibol Aduladej, who recently passed away following seven decades on the throne in Thailand.

In your country, and at our club, you once more displayed to me the true spirit that makes Sheffield Wednesday so special. Since my arrival at Hillsborough, and as I have said before, you have shown myself, my family and friends nothing but friendship and reverence. I knew in my heart that you would all come together as one today to show your respects on my behalf but to actually see this as a reality made for an incredibly special moment.

King Bhumibol Aduladej was the longest reigning monarch in the world and in Thailand, we have entered into a period of mourning. Earlier today, 150,000 people gathered outside the Grand Palace in Bangkok to pay their respects and I share this information with you because it is my belief that we all stand side by side together in the Sheffield Wednesday family, in good times and bad.

The players and the staff wore black armbands during our game against Huddersfield last Sunday, once more at Cardiff on Wednesday and today against Queens Park Rangers, and will continue to do so for the remainder of a 30-period of mourning since the king passed away. The flags at our stadium will also remain at half-mast for the same period.

To have this level of support at this difficult time means so much to me as your chairman. You have once again shown me everything I already knew about the people of Sheffield Wednesday and together you give me the heart and inspiration to do my very best to take our club as far as we possibly can go.
