Ending those hoodoos

24 April 2017

Sheffield Wednesday have ended several long-standing hoodoos in recent weeks and will have to do so again in order to pick up three points on Saturday at Ipswich.

For the first time in ten years, the Owls have registered an impressive five-game winning streak after the weekend win over Derby.

Along the way in achieving this feat was a victory away at QPR – Wednesday’s first win at Loftus Road since October 2000.

And indeed the win over the Rams also brought an end to an unwanted run of 17 games without a victory over the Pride Park outfit.

Incidentally, Wednesday have failed to achieve a win over a Mick McCarthy side in the last 14 attempts – a run that will be tested on Saturday when the Owls travel to Portman Road.

But delighted with the strength, character and determination of the players to post a run of this nature at a crucial time in the season, Lee Bullen said:

“The lads have shown so much strength and resilience to come back stronger this season.

“There have been a few games that we may not have gone on to win in the past, like against Cardiff and QPR.

“But we’ve broken down a few walls and hoodoos over the last few weeks.

“It’s the first time in ten years we have won five in a row, it’s the first time since 2000 we’ve beaten QPR away from home, the first time in 17 games we’ve beaten Derby.

“We’ll see how it goes next week with Mick McCarthy.”
