Experience, focus and the semi finals

13 May 2017

Carlos Carvalhal believes Wednesday’s experience of the play-offs last season will be of benefit but not crucial, as the Owls head into their second successive top six showdown.

Like anything in life, and in particular in football, experience can prove valuable though the head coach says last season’s play-off campaign will have little bearing on the outcome against the Terriers.

He explained: “If you understand experience, it means you have lived the things.

“When you don’t have experience of something, it means you are going into something new and you have some questions about the situation.

“If you have experience, then you have lived the situation before and of course this can help a little.

“But I don’t believe it will be crucial.”

Ahead of the Owls’ trip to the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday, he added: “We can talk about everything surrounding the game but in reality, it will be 11 players v 11 players on the pitch, with a referee and one ball.

“We are completely focused on this part of the game and what we must do to be with efficiency to win the game.

“We are focused on nothing else.”
