Fernando Forestieri extends Owls contract

9 January 2017

Fernando Forestieri has extended his contract with the Owls by a further year, committing until summer 2020.

The 26-year-old joined for an undisclosed fee from Premier League side Watford in August 2015, made his debut following the first international break of the season away at Burnley and went on to enjoy the finest campaign of his career in 2015/16.

The dynamic Italian struck a career-best tally of 15 goals in his maiden Owls term and was a pivotal figure in Wednesday’s push for promotion via the play-offs.

Forestieri’s energy all over the field and ability to change a game in an instant endeared him to Wednesdayites, who voted the talisman Player of the Year for 2015/16.

The coveted forward has bagged a further six goals so far from 21 appearances in 2016/17, including crucial winners in games against promotion rivals Aston Villa and Huddersfield.

He scored three in three towards the end of 2016 versus Fulham, Wolves and Preston which led to his swfc.co.uk November Player of the Month award, as voted for by Owls fans.

Committing his long term future to Wednesday serves as a welcome boost for the club ahead of a key Championship clash next time out at Hillsborough against the Terriers.
