Proud day for Fraser Preston

28 October 2016

Sheffield Wednesday academy product Fraser Preston has signed his first professional contract with the Owls.

The 17-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that will run until June 2019.

Preston joined the Owls academy at Under-14 level and has successfully worked his way up the ranks.

The pacey winger has impressed at both Under-18 and Under-23 level and upon signing his contract, told swfc.co.uk:

“I’ve been working really hard to get to where I am and I’m delighted to sign today. It’s a proud day for me and for my family.

“There’s a lot of hard work ahead of me, I want to push myself, keep learning, keep improving and earn a regular place in the Under-23s.

“I want to keep scoring goals and getting the assists. The first team are strong, it will be a big challenge over the next few years to get closer to them.

“But training with the first team and playing in the practise matches against them is valuable.

“They give you encouragement and if you get called up to train with them it gives you a lot of confidence.”

The youngster says he owes plenty to the academy staff at the club and he continued:

“Dean Ramsdale and the staff have been a massive influence. When I came in with the Under-14s, I didn’t have a lot of confidence but Dean has been there every step of the way, on the sidelines, giving you confidence, letting you know when you’ve played well and not so well.

“I owe a lot to the staff here for making me into the player I am and I want to continue that development.”

The Owls Under-23s defeated Bolton in midweek, coming from behind to post a 2-1 victory.

Preston was on target for the visitors, scoring his maiden goal at 23 level to equalise for Wednesday before George Hirst’s strike sealed the victory.
