Honours even for Under-18s

4 February 2017

The Under-18s posted a useful point at Crewe on Saturday with a 1-1 draw over the Pennines.

Fraser Preston was on target from the penalty spot in the first half after Ben Hughes was felled in the box.

Crewe were awarded a spot-kick of their own before the break but Owls keeper Arijus Brazinskas saved from 12 yards and also kept out the rebound.

But the Alex were not be to denied and netted with ten minutes to go to snatch a share of the spoils.

Coach Steven Haslam said: “The surface wasn’t the best and the game wasn’t really one for the football purist.

“We got our noses in front and credit to Arijus for a fantastic double save from the penalty.

“We huffed and puffed without creating too much in the second half and they got back in the game near the end.

“The conditions didn’t help either side and I think on reflection a draw was about the right result.”
