Hooper blow for Wednesday

24 November 2016

Gary Hooper is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury during last weekend’s trip to Fulham.

Carlos Carvalhal confirmed the news during the pre-match press conference on Thursday.

He told swfc.co.uk: “Gary will be out for some time because of his injury.

“He played very well the last games, he is doing well but this is football and he is not able to play.

“We have more players to play in attack, we like to be with all our players and have more options of course, but we have other players also.”

On a positive note, Lucas Joao could come into contention for the Owls after a lengthy absence through injury.

Meanwhile, Daniel Pudil has returned to training after missing out last week at Craven Cottage and Carlos continued:

“Daniel is training ok, he had a few limitations in the beginning of the week but is getting better and better.

“Fletcher was out but has been back to the training today. Abdi was ill but we expect him to be back to training on Friday. After we will take decisions for the weekend.

“Lucas is back again also, he is more ready than last week because he has had around two and a half weeks of training.

“If someone can’t play, than another will take the responsibility and we believe in all the players in the squad.”
