Integrated into the team

18 October 2016

Carlos Carvalhal believes the recent recruits are nicely integrating into the team.

Wednesday – who have won five of their last seven games – made good use of the international break and resumed their campaign with an impressive performance and victory over Huddersfield.

The head coach says the break benefited the newer players in the squad in particular and that they all understand the philosophies and way of the club.

He explained: “I mentioned this for a long time, it is not easy for a player to come from the outside.

“They have come to a team that has a good dynamic, that play very well and they have to adapt and play completely different football.

“I’m not saying it is better or worse but it is different football, so they need time to understand exactly what we want.

“From the past it is completely different for them, but with time I believe the players are completely integrated now.

“They understand better the team. I can’t say the same one month ago but in this moment they understand.”

One of those new recruits, David Jones, stored 90 minutes under his belt at Huddersfield on Sunday and Carlos continued:

“I believe that all the time, one of them can come in and upgrade the team.

“At Huddersfield, Jones came in and upgraded the team. He gave security, he understands the competition and he understands the way we play which is important.

“But if we put in Almen, if we put in Buckley they will understand also the way that we are playing in this moment.

“In the beginning it wasn’t a question of value because we believe in and know the players we have here.

“They will all do well that is absolutely sure.”
