A total of five Owls players will be away representing their country during the coming international break.

Wednesday duo Barry Bannan and Steven Fletcher have been called up for international duty with Scotland.

Gordon Strachan’s men begin their World Cup 2018 qualifying campaign against Malta on Sunday 4 September at the Ta'Qali Stadium.

Both Bannan and Fletcher have featured in all five of Wednesday’s Championship fixtures throughout August.

Owls left back Daniel Pudil has received an international call for the Czech Republic.

The Wednesday defender is in the squad for two forthcoming games – first a home friendly against Armenia before the Czechs host Northern Ireland in a World Cup 2018 qualifier.

The Armenia contest takes place on Monday 31 August in Mlada Boleslav and the Irish travel to Prague on Sunday 4 September.

Keiren Westwood will head out to Serbia with the Republic of Ireland for their opening World Cup qualifier.

The game will take place on Monday 5 September at the Stadion FK Crvena zvezda, Belgrade.

Before then, the Republic will face Oman in a friendly at The Aviva Stadium, Dublin on Wednesday 31 August.

Finally, Wednesday youngster George Hirst has been called up for international duty representing the England Under-18s.

The round robin tournament with Italy and Israel will take place on the week commencing Sunday 28 August.

The Three Lions start against Italy at Fleetwood on Thursday 1 September before facing Israel at Morecambe on Monday 5 September. Both games kick off at 7.00pm.

The striker made his senior bow for Wednesday in the EFL cup-tie against Cambridge in August 2016.
