The road to recovery

25 August 2016

Owls captain Glenn Loovens will step up his recovery this week and feature for the club’s Development Squad.

The Under-21s face Birmingham at Hillsborough on Friday and Loovens could play a part in the 12 noon kick-off.

Happy with the skipper’s progress and his road to recovery from ankle surgery, Carlos Carvalhal said:

“Loovens is training and is likely to play tomorrow in the Development Squad to increase his time in the game.

“He is a player that missed pre-season so he is training from zero but during the recovery process from his surgery he was training very hard in physical conditions.

“He is in a very good way, he needs to play in games and it’s good he can play with the Under-21s.

“We believe in a short time, everybody like Glenn will be balanced with the others.”

Elsewhere in the squad, Carlos has reported no fresh injury concerns ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Brentford.

“Everybody has been training very well,” he said. “We have been working very hard this week. We have recovered some players that have come more late and the international break will be very good to them also to balance everybody.

“Modou Sougou is back to the training also so we just have the problem with Jose Semedo and Marco Matias.”
