The Owls are saddened to learn of the passing of former player Jim McAnearney, who died on Tuesday aged 81.
The inside forward arrived at Hillsborough in October 1951 with elder brother Tom, signing professional forms on his 17th birthday.
Through an eight-year stint with Wednesday, Jim posted 40 senior appearances, scoring ten goals along the way.
The talented Scot would surely have figured more for the Owls but found stiff competition for a shirt during his time at the club.
Jim made strides to the other side of the white line and in 1958 became one of the youngest players to gain a full FA Coaching Badge.
In 1974 after coaching Bradford and managing Rotherham, he returned to Hillsborough as reserve team boss before following in his brother’s footsteps by becoming caretaker manager in S6 after the departure of Steve Burtenshaw.
