Carlos Carvalhal has hailed the influence of Kieran Lee following the midfielder’s match-winning brace against Nottingham Forest.

The Owls came from behind to finally overturn the Reds, with Lee striking at the last to seal a third successive home win.

And Carvalhal revealed he has held Lee in high regard right from the start of his tenure back in June last year.

The head coach said: “After my first week here I could see what an important player he is.

“I took him to one side and told him that in the first game or the next game, he will be a very important player for us.

“As a player he is like a ghost, not everyone sees what he does, but all the staff and the players know he is a very good player who works very hard for his colleagues.

“He deserved to get his goals today, and he probably deserved even more.”

He added: “He played over 50 games for us last season and that shows you my opinion on Kieran Lee.

“He is the kind of player who does not attract the attention but he is the perfect player for the coaches.”
