Only takes one second

Wednesday fought hard to come away from Brentford last time out with a point after a late Sam Hutchinson leveller gave the visitors a well-deserved share of the spoils.

In particular during that game at Griffin Park, and indeed the one previous against Leeds, the Owls created a plethora of chances but lacked that final ruthless touch in front of goal.

For Carlos Carvalhal, there is no panic whatsoever as the head coach is confident that everything can change in just one second.

Carlos wants to see that same heart, soul and creativity from his side on Saturday as Wigan come to town and to go one step further by adding that clinical edge.

He explained: “We are creating chances, I will tell you. We created enough chances to win three or four games in the last two.

“We won games last season 3-0 that we didn’t create the number of chances we created at Brentford.

“But this is football and it can happen. I would be very worried if we went into the games and did not create chances and we did not play well.

“If the players didn’t play with heart and soul I would be very worried.

“With the players we have, it could be just one click, one moment.

“Players like Hooper, Fletcher, Forestieri, Nuhiu, Joao, Reach, Abdi, Lee, Bannan, Wallace can all score goals, all these players can score a goal in one second.”

And Carlos is confident that will fall into place sooner rather than later and has no concerns on that front as he added:

“Sometimes in football it can be like this, these things can happen. I must tell you I’m not worried because we are in a good way.

“What we must do against Wigan is go one step ahead of what we did at Brentford.”
