Owls agree McManaman move

27 December 2016

Sheffield Wednesday have agreed a deal with Premier League West Bromwich Albion to sign midfielder Callum McManaman on a half-season loan.

The 25-year-old will officially join the Owls upon the opening of the January transfer window.

McManaman is a versatile performer who can play on either flank, offering pace, width and an accurate delivery.

He was the first new recruit of Baggies boss Tony Pulis, who signed the winger for a reported £4.75m from Wigan in January 2015.

Prior to joining West Brom, McManaman plied his trade for Wigan Athletic and played a key role in the Latics lifting the FA Cup for the first time in their history in 2013, posting a Man of the Match display at Wembley.

He began his career with Everton before moving to Wigan in pursuit of first team football and proved an extremely popular performer at the DW Stadium before ultimately switching to the Midlands.

McManaman has been linked with a range of Premier League and Championship clubs but the Owls have won the race for the signature of the Merseyside-born wideman, who will be eligible to make his bow against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Hillsborough on 2 January.
