Owls hit back to beat Bolton

26 October 2016

The Owls’ Under-23s arrested two straight defeats with a hard-fought win at Bolton on Tuesday.

Second half goals from Fraser Preston and George Hirst cancelled out the Trotters’ opener before the break, giving Wednesday the points.

Heading into the game on the back of reverses against Bristol City and Barnsley, the Owls were seeking a return to their impressive early season form.

But with Bolton fielding a far more experienced side – including ex-Owl Lewis Buxton – the visitors certainly had their work cut out.

And the challenge took a turn for the worst when the hosts registered midway through the first half, protecting their lead to the interval.

Wednesday, though, re-grouped and Preston fired a delicious effort into the top corner to restore parity.

That gave Neil Thompson’s side the confidence and platform for victory, which was sealed when the in-form Hirst smashed home from the edge of the penalty area.
