Owls keep on track

4 December 2016

The Owls’ Under-18s posted a second successive win, beating local rivals Barnsley by the odd goal in three at Middlewood Road.

After taking the lead early on through Liam Waldock, Wednesday never looked in danger of conceding the advantage and even had the luxury of a missed George Hirst penalty in the second half.

Hirst, though, made amends, doubling the Owls’ advantage after Lewis Price had a shot cleared off the line.

But the Reds responded in kind, with Kane Swinburn rifling beneath Joe Walker to halve the deficit.

Then, in the closing stages, Swinburn had a chance to equalise from the spot but Walker made a super save – and an even better one for the rebound – to ensure the bragging rights stayed in S6,

Wednesday: Walker, Hughes, West, Kirby (Hunt 88), Lee, Cook, Lonchar, Price (Brennan 71), Hirst, Waldock, Preston (Swaine 90)
