Owls support Francis Benali in charity challenge

11 October 2016

Sheffield Wednesday are proud to support former Southampton defender Francis Benali in his bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK as he sets the challenge of cycling and running a 1,000 mile round trip to every Premier League and Championship club in the country.

Benali is aiming to run and cycle to all Premier League and Championship clubs in the country and will be doing so in just two weeks. The 1,000 mile route will take him into South Wales, to the Midlands and the North-West before crossing the country and returning via East Anglia and London.

The TV pundit and former Saints player stopped off at Hillsborough this week where he was greeted by former Owls striker John Pearson.

The challenge will see him running a marathon and cycling at least 75 miles every day for a fortnight.

The 47-year-old aims to finish the two-week endurance feat at St Mary’s Stadium on October 16 in time for Southampton’s home game against Burnley at 4pm.

The challenge comes after Benali completed another charity challenge where he raised an impressive £265,000 by running from Newcastle to Southampton via every Premier League club in three weeks.

Good luck in the rest of your challenge, Francis!
