Owls to be assessed ahead of Royals visit

8 December 2016

Sheffield Wednesday will run the rule over several members of the squad who have minor knocks in the build-up to Saturday’s trip to Reading.

The biggest concern for the Owls this week is Will Buckley, who sustained a shoulder injury in the clash with Preston.

Glenn Loovens, Ross Wallace, Lucas Joao, Kieran Lee and Steven Fletcher have also had slight disruptions this week and Carlos Carvalhal updated:

“It wasn’t an easy week to prepare the game because these kind of little things sometimes make the players miss one or another training.

“If you miss one training, even if it’s for small things, to organise the team is of course not easy.

“But it’s not a problem, today we have training, tomorrow we have training again and everybody is involved now.

“We will check which players are ready to play and after we will take the decisions but we will be ready 100% to this game.”

The Owls head to Reading on the back of successive wins and back in the top six and despite the injury niggles in midweek, Wednesday head to Berkshire in high spirits.

Carlos added: “Even though it was not a normal week to prepare the game, it’s not a big problem.

“Sometimes the players just need one or two days to rest, for the medical department to care for the little pains.

“It’s been a little strange because it has happened to five or six players at the same time but it’s not a problem.

“The hardest situation is Buckley but we are waiting on the other players.”
