WEDNESDAY 3-0 PORT VALE
Lees 19
Forestieri 51
Abdi 57

---------------------------------

The Owls concluded their pre-season schedule with a routine win over League One side Port Vale at Hillsborough.

On the front foot for the whole of the friendly fixture, Wednesday were in cruise control, creating a raft of chances to which Port Vale had little answer.

From the first whistle Wednesday were in control, launching wave after wave of attacks on the Vale goal.

Daniel Pudil forced a fine save from Ryan Boot ten minutes in before Ross Wallace clipped over the crossbar from close range.

The breakthrough that was coming duly arrived on 19 minutes, Tom Lees thumping home a low header from a Wallace corner that gave Boot no chance.

Pudil was a constant threat overlapping down the left and went close again ten minutes before the break with a volley that fizzed across goal.

Steven Fletcher went nearer still almost on the whistle, heading inches over following another Pudil feed.

The second half started the as the first ended and Wednesday doubled their lead on 51 minutes, Forestieri slamming home an unstoppable volley from the edge of the penalty area.

Six minutes later, it was 3-0, with debutant Almen Abdi finishing a neat three-man move that scythed the Vale defence in two.

More dominance followed as Pudil shot narrowly wide and Abdi was within a lick of paint of a brace but his volleyed hit smashed against the post.

Wednesday: Westwood, Palmer, Lees, Semedo, Pudil, Lee (Sougou 77) Bannan, Wallace, Forestieri, Fletcher (Joao 46, Nuhiu 74), Hooper (Abdi 46)

Attendance: 6.711
