Three important points as Wednesday slip

21 February 2017

Carlos Carvalhal highlighted three important points as the Owls slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Brentford on Tuesday at Hillsborough.

Despite a second half of domination, Wednesday failed to overturn a 2-0 half time deficit, scoring a consolation through Fernando Forestieri in stoppage time.

He said: “These three points are very important. One – the referee did not award what I thought was a very clear penalty when Fernando Forestieri was fouled.

“Number two, we played very predictable in the first half. We started slowly and we must do better.

“Number three, the goalkeeper from Brentford was fantastic, he made a number of fine saves and for me he was the Man of the Match.

“I lost count of the number of chances we created in the second half, we hit the post and the bar, we had chances off the line – but we must congratulate Brentford because they win this game.”

The Owls maintain their seven-point cushion in the play-off equation and head to local rivals Leeds on Saturday.

And Carlos insists the Brentford setback will have no impact in their approach to the live Sky TV clash.

He added: “This game is now gone and we must look forward to the next game. This result will make no difference to how we play on Saturday.

“We will go there and fight, we will do our best and we will be ready, absolutely sure.”
