Wednesday wait on Westwood

27 October 2016

Carlos Carvalhal will wait on the fitness of goalkeeper Keiren Westwood until Saturday, when the Owls take the short hop to Derby in the Championship.

Westwood came off with a back injury during the draw at Cardiff eight days ago and sat out last weekend’s win over QPR.

The Republic of Ireland international is now being monitored on a daily basis by the medical team and Carvalhal said:

“Westwood has had a scan, it is clear, it hasn’t shown anything,

“But he still has a little pain so we are monitoring him day by day. We hope he can recover.

“We need all our players and of course Keiren is an important players in our team. I think he is very near and probably he will play on Saturday but we will see and check him between now and the day of the game.”

Academy graduate Cameron Dawson has proven an able deputy between the sticks and Carlos reinforced his faith in the goalkeeping department at Hillsborough.

He said: “Cammy is a very, very good young goalkeeper, he has done well and we are pleased with the goalkeepers we have at the club.

“Whoever plays, I have no problem sleeping the night before any game.”
