£3,500 raised for Cancer Charity thanks to NCS programme

16 September 2015

Young people from the Community Programme’s NCS project have raised more than £3,500 for Cavendish Cancer Care.

As part of their programme of activities, NCS students took part in various fundraising activities including bag packing, a bucket collection and fun activities at the club’s annual fun day, Owls in the Park.

The raised money will provide 140 hours of therapy to local people affected by cancer in the Sheffield region.

NCS is a government-funded youth programme designed to bring together people aged 15-17 from a wide range of backgrounds and teach them how to communicate and work as a team whilst contributing to their local community.

Lucy Shuttleworth, NCS Manager for the club’s Community Programme, said: “It’s fantastic to see what our young people can achieve when given the right tools and guidance.

“It’s been a pleasure working with the charity to raise the money. We’re very proud of all of our participant’s commitment, enthusiasm and their fundraising efforts.”

Chris Farrell, Chief Executive at Cavendish Cancer Care, said: “The money that the NCS participants raised is fantastic. What’s even more impressive is to see young people being genuinely excited to support a local, independent charity.

“We’re so grateful to everybody to the NCS project and to Sheffield Wednesday for their ongoing support. We rely on the generosity of local people to support others affected by cancer.”

Well done to all involved!
