  • Owls head coach looks forward to Manchester City cup-tie
  • 'Great opportunity for the players', says Gray
  • SWFC face the Premier League champions on Wednesday (7.45pm)

Owls head coach Stuart Gray has said the cup-tie with Manchester City on Wednesday is a great opportunity for his players.

Wednesday have been flying this season with seven clean sheets from ten games and 15 points already in the bag – positioning the Owls sixth in the Sky Bet Championship.

But that good form will be severely put to the test on Wednesday evening at The Etihad.

Gray said: “I’m looking forward to the game and the chance to go to the reigning cup holders and champions.

“They are world class and technically gifted players, I saw them against Chelsea at the weekend and it was a good game.

“This is a great game for us and as I said on Saturday, the underdog will always have its day.

“I always evaluate and say, very rarely do you get these opportunities so we’ll play with a freedom, we’ll play relaxed, we’ll be composed but one thing we will do is play with 100 per cent commitment as well.”

With ten men, Manchester City hit back against Chelsea at the weekend to salvage a point with Frank Lampard on target for the home side.

Gray continued his assessment: “They had a lot of possession and we might have to accept that’s how it will be on Wednesday but at the moment we are defending very, very well.

“I will have my team prepared to give them a good game.

“We will be facing a team full of internationals but it will be a great opportunity for my players to test themselves against world class players.”
