Afobe on the goal trail

10 February 2014

Benik Afobe has told swfc.co.uk he is out to add more goals to his tally after opening his Owls account at Reading on Saturday.

The Arsenal loanee was delighted to get off the mark at The Madejski and the striker feels he has settled in well in S6.

With the games coming thick and fast over the coming weeks, Afobe is out to add to his tally and help Wednesday continue their climb up the Championship and run in the FA Cup.

He said: “I’m really enjoying my time here and have settled in really well.

“Even before I played a game for Sheffield Wednesday, the fans were tweeting me, welcoming me to the club and I want to repay them for that.

“The team are playing with confidence and I was delighted to score my first goal on Saturday but the main thing was that we won the game and kept a clean sheet.

“As a striker, it’s always good to score and get off the mark quickly.”

Victory over in-form Reading saw the Owls’ unbeaten run stretch to 11 games in all competitions and Afobe, for one, was not surprised by the result on Saturday.

He continued: “We knew Reading had quality players but the gaffer got his tactics spot on and we deservedly won the game.

“Now we look forward to Wigan at Hillsborough on Tuesday and hopefully we can continue on this run in front of our fans and I’m confident we can get the result.”
