Aiden McGeady joins Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the loan capture of international winger Aiden McGeady.

The sought-after wideman has joined the Owls on a temporary deal from Premier League Everton until the end of the season.

The arrival of the Republic of Ireland international represents an excellent piece of business for Wednesday, with the move significantly strengthening the squad ahead of this crucial period in the campaign.

Prior to joining Everton, McGeady progressed through the ranks at Celtic before making his senior debut for the SPL giants in 2004 aged just 18.

The winger went from strength to strength at Celtic Park and quickly became a regular starter through his impressive performances, with regular assists and goals along the way.

He made a total of 251 appearances, in which time he was named the club's Young Player of the Year three times, won four Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish League Cups and two Scottish Cups.

He was also voted Scotland's best player by his fellow professionals in 2008, picking up the SPFA's Players' Player of the Year prize.

In August 2010, McGeady left Celtic for Russian side Spartak Moscow for a reported fee of £9.5m.

Such was his impressive start to life at the Lokomotiv Stadium, he was named in the Russian Premier League's top 33 players by the country's Football Union, their equivalent of the FA.

McGeady secured a move to the Premier League with Everton in January 2014 and made his debut that month against West Brom.

He opened his account for the Toffees on the opening day of the 2014/15 season, scoring in a 2-2 draw with Leicester. He has since made 43 appearances for the Goodison Park club.

Elsewhere, McGeady has amassed 79 caps for the Republic of Ireland to date in over a decade on the international stage.
