Keiren Westwood has been the fans’ choice for the past two months in the swfc.co.uk Player of the Month vote but the goalkeeper has shared the credit with his team mates.

The former Sunderland man has enjoyed a seamless transition at Hillsborough since joining in the summer and has proven a hit with Wednesdayites.

But the in-form custodian says credit must go to the squad.

He told swfc.co.uk: “It has meant a lot to win the awards especially as they are voted for by the fans.

“That makes it that bit more special. But listen, the most important thing is the team and we have some very talented players here.

“Without the other ten players in front of me, it would be difficult to do my job.

“The main thing now is to keep at it, keep working hard and adding points.”

Such has been Westwood’s form, the goalkeeper has found himself competing for places on the international front in Martin O’Neil’s Republic of Ireland squad.

But keen to focus on the immediate matters at hand, Westwood is hopeful Wednesday can post their tenth clean sheet of the season and take three points from the Charlton clash on Saturday.

He added: “Everyone knows their jobs and where we need to improve. The league table shows that this club is making progress and it is up to us to make sure that continues.”
