10 May 2016

Young Owls goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith met up with his former Wednesday academy coach when he went along to help out at a community-led project at a local Sheffield primary school.

Wildsmith, who has played for the club since he was 13, joined his former academy coach Tony Moore at Hillsborough primary school where he took part in a football session, conducted a Q&A with the children and signed autographs.

Before becoming a full time member of staff for the Community Programme Tony worked as an academy coach for the club where he worked with Joe and his cohort at under 13s level.

The school project, funded by the Premier League and ran by the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme, aims to up skill teachers and provide professional coaching and support for children aged 5 - 11.

Tony said: “I remember Joe when he was on trial with the Under 13s and I could see from then he had something special. It was great to see Joe helping out and all the kids really enjoyed him coming down and helping out!”

The Community Programme works with a large amount of schools in the South Yorkshire region to deliver professional coaching in a variety of sports including football, tennis and cricket at the same time as improving the health and well-being of school pupils and young people.
