Believe in yourselves

  • Owls and Norwich stalemate at Hillsborough
  • Stuart Gray wants more belief going forward
  • Wednesday travel to Charlton next week

Stuart Gray has urged his players to show more belief in the final third following the goalless draw with Norwich on Saturday.

The Owls posted their second clean sheet of the week after the midweek shutout at Brentford and Gray says the foundations are in place at the back for the rest of the team to follow.

He said: “Defensively it’s another clean sheet and you can’t ask for more of that from your defenders and goalkeeper.

“And while we saw plenty of the ball today, we didn’t do enough with it, particularly in the dangerous areas.

“In the second half we were kicking down the slope and we would normally cause teams problems but we didn’t really do that today.

“I keep telling the players to chance their arm and have a go because you won’t get anything without trying.

“I have just said to them that they have every right to be out on that pitch with Norwich City, who let’s not forget were in the Premier League last season.

“Norwich are a good, good side and although some might say it was a point gained because of the performance of our goalkeeper, we have another clean sheet which was our second in a week.”

On the fitness front, Gray issued an update on man of the match Keiren Westwood and defender Claude Dielna, who made his first start for the Owls.

The head coach said: “Keiren has knock to the hip but I’m sure he will be fine for next weekend and with the form he is in, he will want to play, I am sure of that.

“Claude felt his calf a little, it tightened up and had to come off. We’ll assess that when the players come back in.”
