Bittersweet afternoon for Lewis Baker

18 January 2015

Saturday afternoon was a bittersweet occasion for loan recruit Lewis Baker.

The young midfielder was chomping at the bit to make his home debut against Bolton and when he did so from the bench in the second half, Baker came within a whisker of salvaging the Owls a point.

Only an outstanding close range block from Bolton skipper Matt Mills denied the Chelsea prodigy an equaliser, which was no more than he felt Wednesday deserved.

He told swfc.co.uk: “I thought it was going in, I got a good connection but their defender just got a leg to it and the chance was gone.

“It was really frustrating because we deserved to get back into the game after going 2-0 down.

“We were in charge in the second half but it was just one of those days as we saw at the end when we had a good goal ruled out.

“So for me, it was special to make my home debut but I came off the pitch disappointed because we got nothing from the game.

“But this is a good team and a good club and we have to pick ourselves up and go again for the next game against Birmingham.”
