Buxton commits to Wednesday

31 May 2013

Owls defender Lewis Buxton has signed a new contract, extending his S6 stay until the summer of 2015.

The versatile defender has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal.

Buxton first joined Wednesday on loan from Premiership side Stoke in October 2008 before making his Hillsborough switch permanent in January 2009.

The 29-year-old helped Dave Jones’ side maintain Championship status last time out, making 44 appearances in 2012/13 – bringing his total to 177 Owls appearances in all competitions.

He told swfc.co.uk: “I’m delighted to sign here, I’ve enjoyed my time at the club and I’m pleased it’s all been sorted early so I can look forward to my future here and the new season.

“The supporters here are top class and I would like to thank them for all the support they have shown to me and for voting me as their Player of the Year last season.

“It means a lot to me to remain here and be one of the longest serving players at this club because it is a fantastic place to play your football.

“It’s up to us all now to push on up the Championship and build on what we have achieved over the last few seasons and I’m looking to forward to the challenges that lie ahead.”
