Carlos reviews Owls cup exit

30 January 2016

Carlos Carvalhal says his side will continue to fight in the Championship after the Owls conceded in injury time and were knocked out of the FA Cup 3-2 against Shrewsbury Town.

Lewis McGugan scored twice for Wednesday but goals from Akpa Akpro, Sean Whalley and Jack Grimmer were enough to send the Shrews into the fifth round.

 Carvalhal said: “Congratulations to Shrewsbury.

“They have done well to get through to next round, but I am disappointed with the crucial decision not to give us a penalty at the end of the game.

“We did everything we could to get to the next round, and I will make no excuses, but our priority is the Championship.

“We will now fight 100 per cent to focus on doing well in the league.

“It was also good for us to have players back in this game, as they can help us more in the second half of the season.”

Carvalhal also made a point of thanking the travelling fans for their support in what was a freezibng afternoon in Shropshire.

The head coach added: “Once again I thank the fans.

“They were fantastic as always and showed us support until the end.

“We now want to focus our attention on Burnley on Tuesday.”
