Community Programme launches walking football

17 April 2015

The Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme (SWFCCP) has a launched a new football project aimed at people over 50.

The initiative, ‘Walking Football’, is designed to help people keep active and is aimed at getting those back to playing football who had to stop due to injury.

Walking football is non-contact and anyone that sprints, runs or jogs whilst the ball is in play will be penalised with a free-kick awarded to the other team.

Working in partnership with Sheffield International Venues and the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA, two locations in the North and South of the City have been selected to pilot walking football with the aim of setting up a SWFC team to play in local competitions.

Sessions run every Tuesday at Concord Sports Centre in the Main Hall from the 21 April at 13.30 - 14.30pm at £2 per session and every Monday at Springs Leisure Centre on the astroturf from the 20 April 10.00 - 11.00am at £2 per session.

In addition, The Richmond Rockets Walking football team meet every Thursday morning in Richmond Park at 10am and are coached by Sheffield Wednesday Community coaches. New members are welcome and can just turn up!
