The Owls report back for pre-season training next week – and Stuart Gray is counting down the days.
Wednesday’s head coach will be heading back out to the territory he knows best at Middlewood Road next Tuesday, 1 July, when he welcomes his squad back to duty after the summer recess.
And Gray is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to instil his way of thinking to the squad from day one of pre-season.
He said: “Pre-season has come around quickly. It will be tough and a bit of everything.
“I’m a great believer in you train how you play and play how you train. Pre-season will be a high intensity. We will be pressing and closing teams down.
“We’ve got a summer where I can stamp my own mark on the team and the way I want the team to play.”
Each player was handed an individual summer programme when the curtain came down on 2013/14 and Gray is confident his charges will return to S6 in the best possible shape.
For anyone who falls outside that remit, though, further toil awaits, as he explained:
“Come 1 July, we will know who has and hasn’t done their programmes. Anyone who hasn’t done them will stick out like a sore thumb and they will be doing extra training.
“But I have got a great bunch of lads who I trust. They are very dedicated and I’ve got every confidence that they will come back fit.”
The Owls kick off their pre-season campaign with a trip to York on Saturday 12 July.
