Sheffield Wednesday have signed defender Daniel Pudil from Premier League side Watford.

The Czech Republic international joins the Owls on a season-long loan deal.

Pudil switched to Watford in the summer of 2012 from Spanish side Granada, initially on loan, signing permanently a year later.

He made 108 appearances in total for Watford, helping the Hornets to the top tier last season.

The 29-year-old impressed sufficiently to earn an international recall with the Czech Republic having previously stored 26 full caps.

He also represented the Czechs at Under-19 and Under-21 level.

Pudil kicked off his career as a youth in the Czech Republic with Sparta Prague before moving to FK Chmel Blsany and then Slovan Liberec in his homeland.

A move to Czech side SK Slavia Praha on a season-long loan in 2007 and Pudil played in the Champions League and UEFA Cup en route to helping Slavia to the championship.

Pudil signed for Genk the following year for a reported figure of £1.2m and proved a popular performer through his three seasons with the Belgian side – the last of which saw them lift the league title.

The left back joined Granada on a five and a half year contract in January 2012 and was immediately loaned to Italian side Cesena for the remainder of the season ahead of joining Watford on a temporary transfer before inking a four-year permanent contract at Vicarage Road.
