Dawson signs

22 April 2013

Owls academy product Cameron Dawson has signed professional terms with Sheffield Wednesday, penning a three-year deal with the club at Hillsborough on Monday.

The 17-year-old has continuously impressed during the season for the Under-18s and Development Squad and such has been his progress, the youngster has been recognised on the international stage.

The highly-rated goalkeeper’s first professional contract with the Owls will run until June 2016 and a delighted Dawson said:

“I’m over the moon to have got my first contract with Wednesday, it’s the club I have supported growing up so I’m very pleased.

“I came into the academy quite late but have done a lot of work in a short space of time and I’ve got my reward but now it’s time to knuckle down and push on again.”

Dawson has represented both England Under-18s and England Under-19s this term and believes that has only helped improve his game with the Owls.

He continued: “I had a call-up from the England Under-18s in October after doing well at Wednesday. I got another call up from the Under-18s to play Belgium and followed that up with a call-up for the Under-19s.

“When you go away and play with England, you’re obviously playing alongside the top players and to test yourself against them is what it’s all about.

“My aim now is to play first team football for Wednesday, I realise that won’t happen overnight but with hard work that is definitely the aim.

“There are three top senior goalkeepers at this club so it’s good to pull knowledge from all three of them and use that to help you.”
