Students from Sheffield Wednesday’s Education Programme have helped raise more than £600 for a Sheffield-based charity that supports families living with cancer.
The students, who study across the club’s BTEC sports courses, took part in the Carlton Palmer 10k run and raised more than £600 between them in aid of specialist charity, Cavendish Cancer Care.
Six students, Dale McCarthy, Bailey Russon-Smythe, Joe Whiteley, Josh Allerton, Paddy Burns and Callum West ran the race which saw them complete a 10k all-round distance.
Koby Hurst, Will Burton and James Peech, who study on the level two course, helped on the day with various stewarding tasks to make sure the race ran smoothly.
John Pearson, Charity Events Co-Ordinator and ex-Owls striker, said: “We are really impressed with the hard work and commitment put in by the students and with the money they raised for the charity.
“It’s great for the Education and Community Programme and we’re really impressed with the amount they managed to raise. Well done to all those involved.”
The education programme, which is delivered in association with Sheffield Wednesday and the club’s Community Programme, sees the students study theory and practical sessions based at Hillsborough Stadium.
