Euro striker signs

25 July 2013

Sheffield Wednesday have signed European striker Atdhe Nuhiu on a free transfer, subject to clearance from the FA, Football League and FIFA.

The giant hitman has put pen to paper on a three-year contract at Hillsborough.

Nuhiu is of Albanian origin but has played on the Under-21 international stage for Austria.

The highly rated 23-year-old started his career as a youngster with SV Ried, before moving across Austria to join Wels.

He rose to prominence with Wels during the 2007/08 campaign, scoring 11 goals in 30 games.

Nuhiu moved to Austria Kamten then briefly back to Ried until European giants Rapid Vienna secured his signature in 2010.

The 6’ 6” striker was on target for Rapid in each of their two Europa League games against Aston Villa in the same year.

He spent last season on loan with Turkish outfit Eskişehirspor and has since attracted interest from a raft of clubs in Europe, including the English Premiership.

Nuhiu said: “I have had interest from Sheffield Wednesday for some time but as a professional footballer, you talk to other clubs, this is natural.

“But this club always felt right for me, it feels comfortable and I am very happy to be here.

“I am a typical box player and if I get the service I can score the goals.

“Sheffield Wednesday is a strong name throughout Europe and I am looking forward to starting training and playing with my new club.”
