Frustrated Owls edged out

5 September 2015

The Owls Under-18s were left to rue their missed opportunities in the 2-1 defeat to Queens Park Ranges at Middlewood Road on Saturday lunchtime.

After a sustained period of pressure from the hosts in the first half, the R’s took the lead against the run of play before Mason Duffy promptly grabbed a deserved leveller for Wednesday.

It was a similar story after the break, with Wednesday largely dominating the game and posing all the questions, only for the visitors to bag the crucial goal 15 minutes from time.

Coach Steven Haslam said: “It’s a hard one to take. We were largely in control of the entire game but this is a good lesson for the boys.

“If you don’t take your chances and convert when you’re on top, then you will be punished and we were.

“We were unlucky to concede on the counter in the first half so it was pleasing to see Mason level things up very quickly.

“We have dominated in terms of shots at goal, corners, possession but the most important stat is the number of times you hit the back of the net.

“There were some promising individual performances out there and we’re pleased with a lot of them today but when it came down to it, we just lacked that bit of composure and our final touch let us down.”
