Fully deserved

Owls coach Lee Bullen is delighted for Caolan Lavery following the striker’s call-up to the Northern Ireland senior set-up.

The striker endured a frustrating beginning to 2014/15 but worked his way back to fitness after sustaining a knee injury in pre-season.

To regain his match sharpness, Lavery headed out on loan to Chesterfield in February and boosted the Spireites’ attacking options, scoring three goals in six starts.

Having finished the season back at Hillsborough with two more goals before the campaign was out, Lavery has now earned international recognition, much to the delight of Bullen.

He said: “I am delighted for Caolan; he fully deserves his call-up.

“He has been involved in the Under-21s before so it is the next step on the ladder for him. This will certainly give him a boost whether he is watching from the bench or involved himself.

“Caolan needed that spell at Chesterfield after coming back from injury.

“He was a couple of gears down on the level he was at before so needed to get some minutes under his belt.

“Whether he starts or comes off the bench, Caolan gives you that energy and there is an honesty to his game. He is willing to do his defensive and attacking duties.

“Hopefully this call-up will give Caolan an extra lift and he will comeback for pre-season training on 1 July full of confidence.”
