Gray delighted with Keane capture

  • Striker eligible for Birmingham clash

Stuart Gray is hopeful that Hillsborough will provide the perfect stage for the development of loan recruit Will Keane.

The Manchester United striker joined the Owls on a half-season loan this week and could go straight into the squad that takes on Birmingham next Tuesday.

Gray told swfc.co.uk: “It’s been well known for some time that Will Keane is one of the brightest young talents in the game.

“There were plenty of other clubs interested and I’m really pleased he has joined Sheffield Wednesday.

“It’s no coincidence that we have had the likes of Ross Barkley and Connor Wickham here who have gone on to impress in the Premier League and we also have Lewis Baker here from Chelsea this season.

“Hopefully, Will and Lewis can have a similar impact.”

Having risen through the ranks at Old Trafford, Keane certainly has the pedigree to succeed.

And Gray believes Keane’s grounding with the Premiership giants will only serve all parties well.

He added: “You only have to see what the boy has had in front of him with Manchester United.

“They obviously hold him in very high regard. He’s been with United for a long time and he wants to look their manager in the eye and say he can be a Premier League player.

“Will is a technique player, he can hold the ball up and is good in one v one situations.

“I am looking forward to working with him.”
