Gray delighted with May impact

  • Head coach says striker is brimming with confidence

Owls head coach Stuart Gray has been delighted by the impact of in-form striker Stevie May.

The 21-year-old has begun his Owls career with a bang, producing a string of impressive performances and scoring two goals.

His most recent strike at Birmingham sent the Owls on their way to victory on Tuesday and Gray has praised the work rate and quality of the striker.

He said: “He is an all-round team player. I tell all my players, defending starts from the front so Stevie and Atdhe have done very well on that front.

“You look at the goal he converted at Bolton that was disallowed; his technique was fantastic.

“He created a goal for himself out of nothing at Birmingham and that will give him confidence.

“Any forward is judged on their goals and the pleasing thing for Stevie is he has been quick off the mark.”

Gray added: “He’s still learning, a bit like Atdhe when he came into our team. Stevie has come down from Scotland and is finding out about the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition.

“He wants to do well and will also create his own chances. I’m delighted by what he has offered the team.”
